North Shore-LIJ Health System Signs 3-Year Contract Extension with eCornell
New York State’s largest integrated health system extends partnership to provide online Ivy League programs as part of company’s Center for Leadership & Innovation.

ITHACA, NEW YORK, February 14, 2011 -- North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System (NS-LIJ), the nation’s 16th largest healthcare network, has signed a 3-year contract extension with eCornell to continue offering online Ivy League programs as part of the company’s Center for Leadership & Innovation. North Shore has been an eCornell client since 2004.

North Shore’s Center for Leadership & Innovation was founded in 2002 to provide leadership training for managers and professional training for doctors and other operational staff. eCornell’s online programs provide human resources training for nurse managers and administrators, management development for new managers, and leadership development for physicians, senior managers and future leaders. More information about the work North Shore and eCornell have done together can be found online.

The NS-LIJ program draws from eCornell’s catalog of over 125 online course titles, including programs from world-renowned Cornell University School of Industrial & Labor Relations (ILR), the Johnson School of Graduate Management, and the College of Human Ecology’s Sloan Program in Health Administration, and Department of Design & Environmental Analysis.

eCornell‘s unique approach to e-learning combines the most effective elements of an Ivy League classroom with the flexibility of an online learning environment. eCornell courses—while self-paced and 100% online—are “instructor-facilitated” to help guide a cohort of 20 to 30 participants through challenging, real-world exercises with practical application on the job. Built-in collaboration features enable learners to share experiences, best practices and discuss on-the-job application attempts while immersed in learning that fosters collaboration, interaction and networking amongst the cohort.

Headquartered in Great Neck, NY, North Shore-LIJ is the largest integrated health system in New York State, based on patient revenue, and the third-largest, nonprofit, secular healthcare system in the United States, based on number of beds. Its service area encompasses more than 7 million people throughout New York City and Long Island. With more than 42,000 employees, North Shore-LIJ is the largest employer on Long Island, and the ninth largest employer in New York City.
