eCornell and The Center for Health Design (CHD) Launch New Partnership Offering Enhanced Learning Experience for Healthcare and Design Professionals
eCornell online healthcare programs qualify for up to 15 hours of Continuing Education Credit under CHD’s Evidence-Based Design Accreditation & Certification (EDAC) program.
ITHACA, NEW YORK, June 2, 2011 -- eCornell’s healthcare professional certification program joins forces with CHD’s Evidence-based Design Accreditation & Certification (EDAC) to announce a new partnership that extends the benefits of their respective programs. In searching for ways to support professionals in healthcare facility design, eCornell aims to infuse evidence-based design (EBD) concepts from EDAC into its curriculum to offer an enhanced learning experience.
“The flexible online model of eCornell’s certificate programs is a perfect fit for busy healthcare design professionals who want the collaborative experience of a classroom without the limitations of schedules and geographic location,” explains Chris Proulx, CEO of eCornell. “Working with the world-class Center for Health Design is a logical extension for eCornell. This collaboration of programs offers our students and CHD’s members the benefits of fostering ongoing learning and conversation in our online environment.”
As a result of this partnership, registered eCornell students receive exclusive discounts on EDAC Study Guides and exam fees. Additionally, EDAC-certified individuals may receive up to 15 hours of Continuing Education Credit for completing eCornell’s online certificate courses in Healthcare Facilities Planning & Design. Visit www.ecornell.com/chd to learn more about both programs and enroll.
“We’re excited that eCornell recognizes evidence-based design as an emerging practice by promoting the EDAC credential in its curriculum,” says Debra Levin, President and CEO of CHD. “Partnering with an academic program is a positive step in achieving our goal of building a community of EDAC-certified individuals who will work together to improve healthcare delivery.”
CHD’s Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification is an internationally recognized assessment program that awards credentials to individuals who demonstrate a thorough understanding of how to apply an evidence-based process to the design and development of healthcare settings, including measuring and reporting results. Since its launch in 2009, EDAC has certified over 800 individuals worldwide. Prospective applicants can request more information, and review the certification process at www.healthdesign.org/edac.
eCornell’s Healthcare Facilities Planning & Design program also promotes high-quality healthcare design. This 6-course online certificate program focuses on strategic planning, providing tools and information on facility planning/design for healthcare managers and other professionals who need to help implement transformational change within any healthcare organization – to make it more efficient, safe and patient-centered. The tools and methods taught in this program prepare healthcare and design professionals to address the leading problems plaguing the healthcare industry today and how to effectively use evidence-based research to evaluate, and contribute to transforming and improving healthcare environments—this program provides the means to more effectively participate in the planning, design and evaluation process. In so doing, it will enable participants to help improve effectiveness, patient safety, quality of care, and the work environment of care providers. Prospective students can request more information, review the curriculum and enroll online at www.ecornell.com/chd.
Who Should Enroll in These Certification Programs?
Facility administrators, executives, chiefs of staff, board members, chief nursing officers, department directors and staff who will provide leadership and/or play a role in strategic planning, facility design or re-design/renovation, as well as healthcare architects, designers and facility planners.

About The Center for Health Design and EDAC
The Center for Health Design (CHD), founded in 1993, has a mission to transform healthcare environments for a healthier, safer world through design research, education, and advocacy. CHD began developing EDAC in 2005 with a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Launched in 2009, the EDAC program educates and assesses individuals on their understanding of the EBD process. The goal of EDAC is to teach a process that identifies and uses credible research to inform design, develop goals and hypotheses, gather data, and measure results.
